Sources & Research Notes

What supports the account and what remains unverified

This dossier is an independent research publication. Its references are organized by the type of evidence they provide, with explicit warnings where an account relies on a later summary rather than a contemporary document.

Regional biographical research

Kyburz, Hannelore. “Haariges und Historisches aus Horgen: Eugen Suter.” Horgner Jahrheft, 2000. Principal retrospective source for Suter’s family background, career itinerary and 1943 press references. The supplied transcription should be compared with the printed page before quotation.

Horgner Jahrheft 2000 (PDF).

Patents

US 1,266,879 (1918); US 2,122,163 (1938); US 2,122,783 (1938); US 2,130,748 (1938); US 2,201,458 (1940). The four later documents are held as PDFs in the research archive. Patent claims and inventor names should be checked directly.

Contemporary trade literature

The Eugène Waver. National Art Library, Victoria and Albert Museum, London; volumes from 1928–1947 described in the museum’s collection article. Original issues not yet individually examined for this dossier.

V&A collection account.

Legal record

Nestlé-LeMur Co. v. Eugene Ltd., reported appellate decision, 55 F.2d 854 (1932). The decision is a lead for primary-source analysis of patent competition; the exact holdings should be taken from the judgment itself.

Reported decision.

Other literature and research leads

Amiot, Patrick. Coiffeur – La vie d’un métier: histoire, publicités, traditions, collections, Éditions du Bélier, edition details to be confirmed against the consulted copy. Cited by Kyburz; not yet consulted directly.

Swiss newspapers. Neue Zürcher Zeitung, 8 March 1943; Anzeiger des Bezirkes Horgen, 10 March 1943. Identified in Kyburz, original articles pending.

Technical background. Perm (hairstyle), PDF extract in the research collection, sections “Eugene Suter and Isidoro Calvete” and “Development of the heaters”. This is a derivative overview and is used to generate questions, not as definitive primary evidence.

Editorial principles

We separate biographical recollection, contemporary press, original patent specifications, trade advertising and later historical interpretations. Dates and claims are attributed where necessary; conflicting accounts are not silently reconciled. Unpublished or rights-restricted material is not automatically reproduced.
