A guide to the evidence and its current availability

This document guide distinguishes material already held in the research archive from sources identified but not yet obtained. Images and magazine scans will only be reproduced when their provenance and rights permit publication.

Original patents in the archive

Four United States patent PDFs from 1938–1940 are already present in the research collection: US 2,122,163; US 2,122,783; US 2,130,748; and US 2,201,458. The patent page links to public records and records the filing dates.

Biographical article from Horgen

Hannelore Kyburz, “Haariges und Historisches aus Horgen: Eugen Suter”, Horgner Jahrheft (2000), is available in transcription for this project. It is particularly useful for family origins, professional stations and the references to contemporary Swiss obituaries. It remains a retrospective source.

Swiss newspaper reports to retrieve

The Neue Zürcher Zeitung dated 8 March 1943 and the Anzeiger des Bezirkes Horgen dated 10 March 1943 are identified by Kyburz. Their exact wording, authorship and source context have not yet been verified from the original issues.

The Eugène Waver

The National Art Library at the Victoria and Albert Museum holds bound volumes of The Eugène Waver spanning 1928–1947. This is a major prospective source for product chronology, advertising, company personnel and the professional reception of Eugène equipment.

V&A collection article.

Illustrated apparatus

A historical illustration described as an Icall machine made for Eugène in 1923 is a lead for equipment identification. Before using it, the original image file, caption history, author credit and reuse licence must be checked. The description of up to 22 heaters is a feature of the apparatus, not a substitute for a patent citation.

French secondary literature

Patrick Amiot’s Coiffeur – La vie d’un métier: histoire, publicités, traditions, collections is cited by Kyburz for the Nessler–Suter connection. The relevant pages have not yet been consulted.

Source status: “held”, “identified” and “verified” are deliberately different categories. No unavailable original is presented as if it had been examined.
